Safe Harbor

Safe Harbor uses a custom built submersible camera housing to videotape the bottom of Burnham Harbor located on the lakeshore in Chicago.  The footage documents the end result of all the waste tossed into the harbor.  This harbor sits next to Soldier Field home the Chicago Bears NFL Football team.  Most of the waste has come from the Football fans or the boating traffic.  In the installation a “boat” made from cans, plastic and other trash collected from the harbor, is mounted to the ceiling.  A video projection of the underwater debris emits from the center of the boat.  The video is projected from the “boat” onto sand that covers the floor of the space.
